Catfish – the biggest exception to the rules in the world of cats.
Domestic cats shake their paws in disgust if they are caught in a puddle. Most feral cats also do not like water treatments, and if they have to overcome obstacles in the form of rivers or lakes, they do so with obvious hostility, almost disgust. But there is one amazing species in the feline family, whose members are not just not afraid of water, they feel in their native element, immersed in water. This is a fishing cat – an aquatic inhabitant of the Asian tropics. The fishing cat, or spotted cat, is much larger than domestic cats, has strong muscles, fast and agile. Males of this spotted cat can weigh up to 15 kilograms. An interesting physiological feature of the fishing cat is the presence of membranes between the toes. They help these cats to move in the water, as well as to capture and keep their main prey – fish. In addition, spotted cats have a special structure of the nostrils, which allows them to hold their breath and dive underwater.
